A check is written for payment of property tax to the Department of motor
vehicles or Treasurer’s office.
If the check is found to be worthless or insufficient, it is then turned over
to the Sheriff’s office after an attempt is made by the Treasurer to collect.
The deputy can either receive payment in full or seize the license plate.
Every effort is given to locate the individual and license plate for which the
check was written.
If they are not located the case is turned over to the District Attorney for
prosecution.
