The Sheriff’s Office Directed Patrol Unit (DPU) is a multi-faceted division whose primary goal is conducting criminal interdiction, investigations and arrests of those responsible for the use, possession, sale, manufacture, and distribution of illegal narcotics.

In addition, the Directed Patrol Unit provides Deputies to the Kansas City Drug Enforcement Administration High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) Task Force and to the Drug Enforcement Administration Task Force.

DPU is responsible for the identification, investigation and arrest of individuals, groups, or organizations that pose a criminal threat to the safety and security of the citizens of Johnson County. DPU also provides a secure repository for narcotics intelligence which may be used by law enforcement officers.

The canine unit is also located within the DPU. A canine team consists of an officer and their assigned canine. Assigned canine teams are used to prevent, control and detect criminal activity.

The DPU is comprised of;
  • A Captain
  • A Lieutenant
  • A Sergeant
  • 9 Deputies, 2 are attached to a task force and 2 are attached to the canine teams
  • Administrative Aide
