I have been serving the law enforcement community for 30 years. I joined the Johnson County Sheriff’s Department in 1978 as a Deputy serving in the Adult Detention Center. My assignments with the Sheriff’s office also included patrol, detective and narcotics before being promoted to sergeant and eventually lieutenant..
In 1996, I was appointed Chief of Police with the City of Roeland Park, Kansas. I served that community until my appointment as Undersheriff of Johnson County from August 2002 to April 2003
I was born in Great Bend, Kansas and began my law enforcement career in 1969 as a reserve police officer. I’ve served with the Great Bend Police Department, Larned, Kansas Police Department and the Garden City, Kansas Police Department. I am a graduate of Ottawa University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Administration of Justice.
I have been an active participant in many law enforcement associations and am a graduate of the 196th Class of the FBI National Academy and a current member of the Kansas-Western Missouri chapter of National Academy graduates. I am a life member of the Kansas Peace Officers Association, serving as President and currently as Governor Emeritus, and a member of the Kansas City Metropolitan Chiefs and Sheriffs Association, the Kansas Sheriff’s Association and the International Association of Chiefs of Police.
My wife of 15 years, Robin Lewis, was a former Johnson County Prosecutor who is now an attorney in private practice.
