Evidence Submission and Packaging

The JCSOCL does not accept evidence for analysis from the general public. All evidence must be submitted through your local police department or the Johnson County Sheriff's Office.

The JCSOCL does not currently accept examination requests for the following types of testing:

  • Explosives
  • Questioned Documents

When submitting evidence to the Johnson County Sheriff's Office Criminalistics Laboratory, unless otherwise specified by the customer agency on the submission sheet, we will select the most appropriate method for the examination. See the JCCL Method List for a complete description of the methods we may select to use when examining your evidence.

Recent Updates

Effective Monday December 7th, 2020, the prelog questions for a Biology/DNA examination have been significantly updated. All evidence submitted to the laboratory must be completed through our prelog website. These updates were done to simplify the questions and make it easier to complete the prelog entry.  A training document is available for more information.

Suggestions for information regarding evidence submission, examination capabilities or anything else which you feel would be helpful should be directed to the laboratory.
