Allen Hamm was promoted to Assistant Director of the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office Criminalistics Laboratory in December 2001. In September of 2015, he assumed the role of Interim Laboratory Director, and was appointed as the new Laboratory Director on February 22, 2016.
He joined the Sheriff’s Office in March 1996 serving as a Forensic Chemist in the Biology/DNA section of the laboratory. His assignments with the Sheriff’s Office have included Biology/DNA casework examinations, crime scene processing, DNA Technical Leader and Quality Manager. Director Hamm is a certified Law Enforcement Officer by the state of Kansas. He is also a member of three forensic organizations and is certified by the American Board of Criminalistics.
Director Hamm has more than twenty years of experience in forensic science. He began his forensic science career with the Kansas City, Missouri Police Department Crime Laboratory in 1988 serving as a Forensic Scientist in the Biology section. In 1991, he went to the Kansas Bureau of Investigation in Topeka, Kansas and helped establish the first forensic DNA unit for the state of Kansas. During his career, Director Hamm has testified on Biology/DNA analysis in several criminal cases throughout the state of Kansas.
Director Hamm and his wife Lori have two sons, two granddaughters, and one grandson.
