Johnson County, Kan. –Additional deputies will be on the roads looking for aggressive drivers this weekend. Deputies will be looking for people engaged in traffic offenses that may be a danger to others on the roadways such as: Speeding, excessive lane changes, improper passing and tailgating.

During this extra enforcement, deputies will be targeting drivers engaged in aggressive and illegal operation of vehicles and will also be strictly enforcing seatbelt, drunk driving and helmet laws.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, approximately 6,800,000 crashes occur in the United States each year; a substantial number are estimated to be caused by aggressive driving.

The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office is joined by the Kansas Highway Patrol and the Mission, Olathe, Gardner, Shawnee and Kansas City Kansas Police Departments in this extra enforcement. This is made possible through a grant from the Kansas Department of Transportation and aims to reduce the number of crashes and fatalities in the Kansas City area.
