The Court Services/Transportation Unit is responsible for taking inmates to court
and all transportation responsibilities of the Sheriff’s Office. Their duties
include transporting inmates to court, medical appointments and to and from state
and federal institutions across the country.
They are responsible for the transportation needs of the probate courts of Johnson
County, transporting patients to and from court hearings and back to several different
mental health facilities throughout the state.
This unit also handles all extraditions of persons arrested on warrants outside
of Johnson County and returns them to answer these charges.
The Unit is comprised of 2 sergeants, 24 deputies, 1 corrections specialist and
2 secretarial personnel.
The Unit employees 4 buses, 7 vans and 8 cars to complete these assignments.
Some extradition trips are completed using commercial airlines or private extradition
contractors.
