On behalf of the men and women who work at the Johnson County Adult Detention Center
in Olathe, I would like to welcome you to our website. I am Major Bret Cortright
and as the Facility Administrator for the Olathe Adult Detention Center (OADC),
I would like to tell you a little about our facility.
OADC opened on August 20, 1988 as a state of the art facility utilizing the new
Direct Supervision method of inmate management by placing deputies “inside” the
housing units having direct interaction with inmates. Following the “Principles
of Direct Supervision” this method has become the norm in detention facilities throughout
the country successfully reducing vandalism, assaults, and other crimes from within
the facilities.
Our policies and procedures are compliant with all local, state and federal standards
and guidelines to ensure a safe and humane environment for those placed into our
custody. We also ensure that any and all medical, dental, and mental health needs
are met and provided for by dedicated health care professionals.
We offer a variety of programs and services to include substance abuse classes,
life coping skills, and religious programs to any inmate who may request it.
The staff at OADC are well trained fully commissioned law enforcement professionals
that perform their duties in what’s known as “the toughest beat in America” with
integrity, pride and professionalism. These officers are committed to serving our
community and its citizens to make it a better place for everyone.
In the twenty-plus years of our operation we have continually strived to improve
our methods of inmate management, our training, our security systems, and our overall
service to the community.
